Home to a combined 13 million residents, the northern economic powerhouse of Lombardy and Lazio, which includes the capital Rome, will elect a new regional president and assembly members. Candidates backed by Meloni’s hard-right coalition are expected to triumph in both regions. Her far-right Brothers of Italy party made history by securing 26 percent in September’s legislative elections. And in October she became Italy’s first female prime minister, at the helm of the most right-wing government in Rome since World War II. The vote will also be closely watched for signs of tensions between Meloni and her coalition partners — Matteo Salvini’s far-right League and Silvio Berlusconi’s right-wing Forza Italia. In Lombardy, regional president Attilio Fontana, a member of Salvini’s League and the candidate of Meloni’s coalition, is expected to be re-elected for another five-year term. Further south in Lazio, right-wing candidate Francesco Rocca is expected to win in the face of a divided opposition, replacing the Democratic Party’s Nicola Zingaretti, who resigned after being elected to the national parliament last year. Polling stations were to stay open until 11 pm local time (2200 GMT) and reopen again on Monday. Results were expected later on Monday. A busy pathway schedule for the marquee event in men's U19 cricket event was unveiled by ICC on Thursday. "As the sun sets on a thrilling first edition of the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup, cricket fans craving a glimpse at the next generation of superstars can look forward to a busy pathway event schedule as attention now turns towards the next U19 event, the ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2024, in Sri Lanka," said a statement from ICC. While Grace Scrivens, Shweta Sehrawat and Maggie Clarke recently made a name for themselves in South Africa at the inaugural ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup, the U19 Men's Cricket World Cup also boasts of introducing several top names to world cricket; notably Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, and the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy winner in the recently announced ICC Awards 2022, Babar Azam. The 16-team event returns to Sri Lanka for the first time since 2006. 41 matches will take place from January 2024, taking in two round-robin stages - an initial four groups of four teams, and a subsequent Super 6 stage from which the semi-finalists will be determined. The hosts are currently one of 11 teams already qualified for the event by virtue of being the best-placed ICC Full Member nations at the previous edition in 2022, with the remaining five nations due to compete for a place throughout a busy 2023 calendar. Qualification for the final five places began in 2022 with Division Two Qualifiers taking place in the Asia, East-Asia Pacific and Europe regions. This stage helped decide the final teams lined up to battle it out at the Regional Qualifier stage, held in each of the five ICC regions, where the winning country in each will seal a place at the landmark event. Speaking on the crunch pathway events due to take place before Sri Lanka 2024, ICC Head of Events, Chris Tetley commented, "The success of the recently concluded ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup demonstrates how important these events are for cultivating the next generation of talented cricketers that will take the game to new levels.""As well as welcoming new competing nations during this pathway, qualification for the 2024 edition has already witnessed the competitive standard of cricket that is evident around the world. I am sure that we will see more thrilling encounters in the coming months and that Sri Lanka 2024 will continue the rich legacy this event has in forging playing opportunities on the global stage for some of the most exciting young talents in the game."2023 Regional Qualifier Schedule:The Asia Regional Qualifier is the... RCEP, a catalyst for recovery, regional integration in Asia-Pacific
Bron: news.google.com Macau , 2023-01-02 15:23:42 , macaunews.net latest rss headlines [ad_1] Commenting on his doubled income from the sale of five tons of durian to export traders in December, Nguyen Van Hai, a veteran farmer in Vietnam’s southern Tien Giang province, attributed such growth to the adoption of stricter cultivation standards. He also expressed satisfaction over higher import demand from countries participating in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), of which China takes the lion’s share. Like Hai, many Vietnamese farmers and companies are expanding their orchards and improving the quality of their fruit in order to boost their exports to China and other RCEP members. The RCEP agreement, which entered into force a year ago, groups 10 countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. It aims to ultimately eliminate tariffs on over 90 percent of goods trading among its signatories over the next 20 years. As the world grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple uncertainties, the implementation of the RCEP trade pact offers a timely boost to faster recovery and long-term growth and prosperity of the region. TIMELY BOOST TO RECOVERY To increase exports to RCEP countries, Vietnamese enterprises must innovate technology and improve designs and product quality, Dinh Gia Nghia, deputy head of a food export company in the northern Ninh Binh province, told Xinhua. “The RCEP has become a launching pad for us to increase product output and quality, as well as the quantity and the value of exports,” he said. Nghia estimated that in 2023, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports to China may increase by 20 to 30 percent, thanks mainly to smoother transport, quicker customs clearance and more efficient and transparent regulations and procedures under the RCEP arrangement, as well as e-commerce development. Customs clearance has been shortened to six hours for agricultural products and within 48 hours for general goods under the RCEP agreement, a major boon for Thailand’s export-dependent economy. In the first nine months of 2022, Thailand’s trade with RCEP member countries, which accounts for around 60 percent of its total foreign trade, rose 10.1 percent year on year to 252.73 billion U.S. dollars, data from Thailand’s Commerce Ministry showed. For Japan, the RCEP has brought the country and its largest trading partner China into the same free trade framework for the first time. “Introducing zero tariffs when there is a large volume of trade will have the most significant effect on trade promotion,” said Masahiro Morinaga, chief delegate of the Japan External Trade Organization’s Chengdu office. Japan’s official data showed that the country’s exports of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products and food hit 1.12 trillion yen (8.34 billion dollars) for the 10 months through October last year. Among them, exports to the Chinese mainland accounted for 20.47 percent and increased by 24.5 percent from the same time a year earlier, ranking first in export volume. In the first 11 months of 2022, China’s imports and exports... Lees meer

China-ASEAN Expo to create new opportunities for regional growth — experts
Bron: www.macaubusiness.com Macau , 2022-09-20 02: 17: 05 , macaunews.net latest rss headlines [ad_1] The 19th China-ASEAN Expo and China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit, which opened here Friday, will help deepen cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and create new opportunities for reviving regional economic growth, experts say. The four-day expo themed “Sharing RCEP New Opportunities, Building a Version 3.0 China-ASEAN Free Trade Area,” will last till Monday as this year marks the first year of implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) free trade agreement. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Malaysian companies from various sectors including food, health and services join this year’s expo and look forward to building strong and lasting business relations with Chinese companies, Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz, chief executive officer of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation said at a seminar held before the China-ASEAN Expo. So far, the 19th China-ASEAN Expo has attracted a total of 1,653 enterprises to its offline event. Meanwhile, the online expo has attracted the participation of more than 2,000 enterprises. “It’s my third time in Nanning to participate in the expo, and the exhibition is very lively,” said Caroline Ong, a Filipino businesswoman who brought her skincare products to the expo. She told Xinhua that the expo provides a good platform for promoting cross-border cooperation and she hopes to introduce more high-quality products into the Chinese market through other platforms such as the China International Import Expo and the China International Fair for Trade in Services. Trung Nguyen Legend, a leading Vietnamese coffee company, has attended the Expo consecutively since the first China-ASEAN Expo held in 2004. “China is one of our most important overseas markets,” said Li Wuqiang, sales director of the Shanghai office of the company. Statistics show that the China-ASEAN Expo has attracted about 1.015 million merchants worldwide over the past 18 years. ASEAN Secretary-General Lim Jock Hoi said that the China-ASEAN Expo has great significance in strengthening business networks and regional connectivity. Malaysian International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Lim Ban Hong said the RCEP will create a more transparent, specific, rules-based framework for trade and investment. “The harmonization of tariff concessions under RCEP will directly give a boost to trade and enhance regional integration in the region. It also provides opportunities for exporters to expand and diversify the outreach of their goods and services into more markets,” he said. Trade among RCEP countries has scored rapid growth. According to the General Administration of Customs of China, China’s imports and exports with ASEAN increased by 14 percent year-on-year in the first eight months of this year. During the same period, China’s imports and exports with the other 14 RCEP countries increased by 7.5 percent year-on-year. RCEP countries share the preferential policies, jointly overcome the impact of the pandemic, thus improving facilitation for trade and investment, said Aksornsri Phanishsarn, an associate professor with the Faculty of Economics at Thammasat University in Thailand. Asia kicks off key security meeting on regional security after two-year suspension
Bron: www.macaunews.net Macau , 2022-06-10 11: 03: 07 , macaunews.net latest rss headlines [ad_1] Singapore, June 10 (ANI/Xinhua): The 19th Shangri-La Dialogue will be held here from Friday to Sunday after a two-year suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing mainly on security in the Asia-Pacific region and viable solutions, including the China-proposed Global Security Initiative (GSI). The three-day summit will hold seven plenary sessions, two ministerial roundtable meetings and three simultaneous special sessions for delegates from more than 40 countries or regions to exchange views on regional and global security issues. Senior defence ministers from Southeast Asia and the wider Asia region, Europe, North America and the Middle East are also expected to attend and speak at the Dialogue. According to the agenda, Chinese State Councilor and Minister of National Defense Wei Fenghe will address a plenary session and is expected to introduce China's policy, principles and actions on safeguarding true multilateralism, regional peace and stability, and building a shared future for humanity. A highlight of the summit is China's GSI, seen as another global public good that contributes Chinese solutions and wisdom to address global security challenges. Analysts said the initiative's implementation will attract enormous attention at the Shangri-La Dialogue. "We look forward to welcoming Wei Fenghe to the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue and to hearing his views at this critical time for the regional and global security order," said James Crabtree, executive director of the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies-Asia. Mahmud Ali, associate fellow of the Institute of China Studies, University of Malaya, said China's GSI can be interpreted as a step toward developing "a community with a shared future."The GSI views humanity as an indivisible, singular and united body sharing a single home planet, whose security affects every individual and society and therefore must be defended and advanced collectively, he said. The expert believed that the vision has expanded the dimension of security from its "narrowly-defined political-military parameters" to "focus on the shared nature of planetary existence, dilute the emphases on divergences, and enable collaborative approaches to tackling trans-border challenges."Other topics for discussion include managing geopolitical competition in a multipolar region, the Myanmar situation, climate security and maritime security. Meanwhile, analysts also cautioned that the United States may use Asia's top security meeting this week to further pitch its Indo-Pacific Strategy, during which U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin will make a speech titled "Next Steps for the United States' Indo-Pacific Strategy."Senior Colonel Zhang Chi, an associate professor at the National Defense University of China, told Xinhua that the United States has spared no effort in implementing its Indo-Pacific Strategy to isolate China, divide Asian countries and undermine the central role of ASEAN in the region. Transport Ministry to turn Labuan into regional maritime hub
Bron: www.thesundaily.my Maleisië , 2022-05-20 08: 36: 06 , Highlights [ad_1] LABUAN: The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has seen the potential of Labuan to be turned into a regional maritime hub owing to its developing maritime industry. Its Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said Labuan which is strategically located in the heart of Southeast Asia and with natural depth of its waters could be developed into a vibrant economic state and federal territory. “MOT thinks that Labuan has the ingredients to be a maritime hub in this region, and we should make the effort to realise this plan. “We want to turn Labuan into an economic vibrant island especially in the maritime-related sectors for the people’s wellbeing here and the MOT thinks the maritime industry can generate economic activities for the people of Labuan,” he said after witnessing the signing of heads of agreement between Victoria STS Sdn Bhd and Fendercare Marine Asia Pacific Pte Ltd on the ship-to-ship cargo transfer collaboration. He said the newly introduced services of ship-to-ship (STS) cargo transfer in the Labuan port limit of Victoria Bay is a testament to the island’s potential to be a regional maritime hub. “When we received a marine research (risk) assessment (MRA) from the operator of STS of Victoria STS Sdn Bhd, we can see the potential of this maritime activity to generate economic activity on this island. “And after being briefed by the Labuan Port Authority (LPA) and thoroughly studied this STS activity and its economic impact to the local community, we issued the permit to the operator to conduct the STS in the Labuan waters, which is quite far from the Labuan Liberty Wharf. Wee said his ministry approved six berth areas for the STS, to enable 12 mother vessels to conduct STS at one time. “With six berth areas approved for the STS, Labuan has among the largest STS facility alongside other areas in Peninsular Malaysia like in Port Klang, Johor’s Port of Tanjung Pelepas and Pulau Bunting/Yan, Kedah. “And among the potential advantages of Labuan’s STS facility are the area is strategic and protective from unreasonable weather and natural disasters such as typhoon,” Wee said. He said the STS services could turn Labuan into a maritime hub, with a long-term plan from LPA to further develop the port in the near future. Labuan-based Victoria STS opened a new chapter in cargo handling, carrying out a ship-to-ship (STS) crude oil transfer operation for the first time ever at the Labuan port limit of Victoria Bay on May 10. Victoria STS, with specialist expertise in offshore handling of liquefied gas and bulk petroleum cargoes, received its first licence on July 31, 2021 to conduct STS operations of oil and liquefied gas products within the Victoria port limit of Labuan. — Bernama [ad_2] Lees dit artikel en meer van www.thesundaily.my - Maleisië
US condemns DPRK missile launch, consulting with regional allies

"We are aware of the DPRK's ballistic missile launch today and are consulting closely with the Republic of Korea (ROK) and Japan, as well as other regional allies and partners. The United States condemns these actions and calls on the DPRK to refrain from further destabilizing acts," the statement said. Property values rise on regional unrest
Bron: www.financialmirror.com Cyprus, 2022-04-16 12: 33: 33 , Financial Mirror [ad_1] It would appear that the misery of others helps Cyprus real estate from time to time. Those of a more “mature” age will remember the interest from Lebanon (as a result of the civil war there) that saw property prices and rents rocket, followed by the breakup of Yugoslavia, the first wave of Russian instability with many becoming rich overnight when the Soviet Union collapsed, and the invasion of Ukraine. This foreign interest was directed towards Limassol and Larnaca, boosting demand and retaining real estate values. We now see the outcome of the situation in Ukraine with a sharp increase in rental demand (primarily in Limassol and Larnaca) mainly for apartments and, to a lesser extent, office space. What is notable is that enquiries refer to high budgets such as one-bedroom units to rent at €1,000 p.m., offices to let at €20/sq.m. etc., whereas for the more upmarket units rental requests are at around €2,000-€3,000 p.m. I don’t know whether this demand will be sustained and for how long, as it depends on the ferocity and the duration of this very unfortunate conflict. At the same time, there is interest in apartment blocks (perhaps for families), whereas hotels demand to rent through agents without clear intentions. Whatever the demand levels, it is not directed toward the more expensive skyscrapers units. However, still, it is an indication of the demand coming from Ukraine (individuals and companies). Although the Cyprus government offers some financial assistance to Ukrainian refugees, this is not enough for long-term sustainable living. Therefore, such interest should be looked upon with caution. Furthermore, the increase in rental values for apartments will not subside (for reasons of increasing building costs, higher interest rates, and inflation). This demand will hurt locals already experiencing difficulties meeting current rents based on an average income. Also, these Ukrainian refugees, most of whom are well educated and with innovative ideas, cannot fill the gap in the hotel industry since they are mostly women and children, with limited knowledge of English, rather than a labour force geared to this sector. A report on Alpha TV referred to a Congolese girl (now 14 years old) who came to Cyprus about five years ago, described her heartbreaking story and was top in her class in a local school. She is now under threat of deportation with her family, with no handouts received from the government, the father working in a petrol station, the mother a cleaner and after five years of hard work, they managed to buy a used car. So, out of the approximately 10,000 Ukrainian refugees we have received so far, if we add up the many other economic or other migrants with another 20,000, we will enhance the labour force (and the social security system). In contrast, Italy needs 500,000 foreign residents a year to contribute to the labour industry, and Greece 100,000. Cyprus also has one of the lowest birth rates in Europe,... Lees meer

Macau facing subdued visitation, GGR in March on regional COVID concerns: Bernstein
Bron: www.asgam.com Macau , 2022-03-23 01: 21: 41 , macaunews.net latest rss headlines [ad_1] Macau’s average daily gross gaming revenue remained flat week-on-week in the first six days of March, but there are concerns that both visitation and GGR will be further impacted in the short-term amid rising case numbers in Guangdong province. According to a weekly channel check conducted by brokerage Bernstein, Macau’s combined GGR for the six days from 1 to 6 March was MOP$1.1 billion (US$135 million) with an average daily rate of MOP$183 million (US$22 million) – down 78% on March 2019 and 32% lower than March 2021. Visitation is also showing signs of slowing, with latest figures from the Public Security Police Force for the period from 28 February to 2 March showing a 26% decline in travel into and out of Macau compared with the previous week to 41,000 journeys. “China’s COVID outbreak is still largely under control, but the largest feeder market, Guangdong, is reporting rising cases which could lead to further spread in China and greater travel impediments in the near term,” said Bernstein’s Vitaly Umansky. “Macau continues to require in-bound travelers from Guangdong to present a COVID test taken within 48 hours prior to entry, while air arrivals from other provinces remain at 7-day test requirement (although this could rise if cases become elevated in other parts of China). “Hong Kong continues to have a large number of COVID cases but official daily numbers have come down over the last three days.” Umansky noted that Guangdong cases were increasing last week, with double-digit cases in Shenzhen and Dongguan. The brokerage is estimating a 25% month-on-month decline in Macau’s average daily GGR rate in March, representing an approximately 75% decline on March 2019. China-Cambodia regional friendship hospital to be inaugurated in Tbong Khmum
Bron: www.phnompenhpost.com Cambodja , 2022-03-15 09: 08: 34 , thecambodianews.net latest rss headlines [ad_1] An aerial view of the Tbong Khmum Cambodia-China Friendship Hospital on Friday. TBONG KHMUM ADMINISTRATION The Tbong Khmum Provincial Administration said the new Cambodia-China Friendship Hospital in the province is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Hun Sen in early March. “Provincial governor Cheam Chan Sophorn and Yu Sun Long, minister attached to the prime minister, held a meeting to discuss the venue for inauguration ceremonies for the new hospital and the Techo Sen Tbong Khmum school in early March, to be presided over by the premier,” the administration said. Ek Kheang, director of the hospital, said that ground was broken for the project on March 1, 2019 in a ceremony presided over by Hun Sen, so it would be fitting that the premier officially opens the hospital as well. Construction was completed on October 27 last year, using a $50 million grant from the Chinese government. The five-story hospital is equipped with modern equipment for consultations, treatment and surgery. With 300 beds and more than 400 medical specialists, it will act as the regional hospital for Kratie, Ratanakkiri, Mondulkiri and Stung Treng provinces. The Techo Sen Tbong Khmum school will also be put into official use at the same ceremony. The school teaches grades from primary to high school level, said In Pov Sambath, of the Tbong Khmum provincial education department. He said the school has already been put into temporary use for all levels, with 557 students and 18 teachers. There are two buildings used for study, each of which has three floors with a total of 36 classrooms. There are also two administrative buildings as well as teacher accommodation, he said. There is not exact date set as Prime Minister Hun Sen is placing himself in quarantine for a ‘short period of time’ after having been directly exposed to the coronavirus. “Because I have had direct contact with people who were Covid-positive, I must enter quarantine for a short period of time,” he said in a Facebook post on February 25. While in quarantine, he will perform his usual work, as he did during his previous isolation. He said he currently has a busy schedule that includes some events next week. These events have not been cancelled, as he hopes to end his quarantine period soon.
